What most of us know as popular country music originated in the US but it would be harsh to declare a cultural misappropriation war on any non-Americans who also make music in the same style and tone. And if you like American country music it would be a mistake to dismiss British musician Amy Moore on these grounds as her four track EP Free Spirit is an impressive introduction to her work.
Moore sings that she has paid her dues on the melodic title track and she is certainly no flash in the pan, with a history of having played (drums, guitar) and sung in bands. This solo EP benefits from its star-crossed vulnerability; “Consequences” and “My Fall Out Boy” determinedly struggle in romantic matters with subtle twang, and “Addiction” is, of course, appropriately addictive. “Free Spirit” is a distinctive anthem to independence.
