PB10 is a four track EP by Dutch indie band Pip Blom to celebrate ten years together, made up of four re-worked tracks brought back to the home studio and re-recorded: “we didn’t want to just dust them off — we approached them the way we’d approach something new, letting where we are now shape the recordings without losing what made them Pip Blom songs to begin with”.
To date Pip Blom have released three album Boat (2019), Welcome Break (2022) and Bobbie (2023) and a good whack of singles (so much so that there is a 2018 promo only collection of them, Singles). This single run started with 2016’s “Hours/Truth”; neither of these songs made it to debut album Boat but “Hours” is here on PB10. Originally a demo dominated by guitar and voice, it is transformed by a full, modern, electronic production.
“School” was the B-side to 2017 single “Babies Are A Lie”; again, neither of these songs made it to Boat although they appeared in live session versions on a Rough Trade bonus CD to the album. For PB10, the new version of “School” has everything thrown at it whereas the revised “Babies Are A Lie” takes a more subdued, sophisticated approach.
Then there’s the re-made version of “The Shed” (originally on 2018 four track EP Paycheck). Packed more tightly than its earlier incarnation, it remains distinctly recognisable not just as the same song but by Pip Blom. When much sounds the same to these deaf ears, it’s impressive to have your own thing going on.
PB10 is available on CD, download and as part of a bundle with a colour book of photos and stories from across the band’s history (only 50 books available and not many left at the time of writing).
